Musical artist Ali Henderson opens up about Emotional Vampire.
How are you living your best life right now?
Ali: I'm taking the time to slow down for a second because this summer was so crazy and hype. Right now I’m on a “driving with the windows down to a good playlist” type vibe. Drinking Sake with my friend, going to therapy, writing songs with my favorite people... My best life has been chill recently and I’m grateful I’ve had a moment to stop and appreciate everything and everyone around me.
Emotional Vampire is coming out soon! Congratulations! Is the song still being worked on?
Ali: AHH! Thank you! I’m so excited for this song to be out!!! The song is finished, all wrapped up with a pretty pink bow.
When do you know when it's done?
Ali: This song went through a lot of mixes. I think ultimately it’s a feeling. The producer and I were listening to the last mix of the song and we were just like “yep... this is it, it feels right”.
Where did the title come from?
Ali: There’s a show called “What We Do In The Shadows”, I’ve never watched it, but someone was telling me about it and apparently there’s a character called an “energy vampire”. That inspired me, so I wrote down the title “EMOTIONAL VAMPIRE” and had it in my phone for months before we actually wrote it.
How did you become inspired to make this song?
Ali: Because I was 100% a victim of an emotional vampire. There was a person in my life who drained me. Everything was always about them, they only needed me when there was some kind of drama. I was an emotional punching bag, and I got fed up with it. I’ve since had a conversation with this person, but I hate confrontation so initially instead of talking to them about it I passive aggressively wrote this song hahaha.
How did you approach this song vs. songs past?
Ali: I guess the approach was different because this was a thing that was still happening to me when we wrote it, so obviously I was super attached to it. I don’t usually barge into a session and demand we write about my personal life, but this day I definitely did.
Writing this song was so therapeutic for me because I was frustrated, hurt, and pissed off. Nothing felt better than yelling “YOU SUCK THE FUN RIGHT OUT OF ME” into a microphone.

What are you most excited about the new single Emotional Vampire?
Ali: I’m excited for people to get their frustration out. I wrote this song with the intention of letting it be a vessel for people to get their emotions out... whether that be head banging after the guitar solo, jumping on your bed singing into your hairbrush, or screaming the lyrics at your shitty ex... I wrote it to get my feelings out, and hopefully it gives my listeners a chance to as well.

Ali: Yes, speak your TRUTH BABY!!!!! Take yourself on a date, make yourself feel special, LOVE everyone with your whole heart, kiss your friends faces, and wear glitter every day.
