AlreadyLate is a band shaped by a long list of genres and genders based in NYC. On top of a variety of guitars, catchy hooks (in both English and Japanese), funky bass lines and drum beats as energized as a riot at a punk rock show, they have managed to find spots in their set for electronics, as well as some ukulele. Thanks to their genre-crossing and bilingual–tracks, their eccentric live shows promise to excite a diverse range of crowds.
How are you living your best life right now?
B-STIXX - By being my super non-binary trans pansexual self while making music, making films, and petting dogs.
JEST A KING -Eating good and laughing a lot.
Talk to us about your new music!
B-STIXX -So we just released an album last year called LITTLE KID DREAMS and a music video of one of our songs called LOSER. This album is an invitation to everyone and anyone to embrace their truest selves.
JEST A KING -Well, we've just dropped a music video for one of the songs from our LP, Little Kid Dreams, the song is called Loser.
When do you know when a song is done, DONE?
B-STIXX -Honestly, when we run out of ideas.
JEST A KING -When we can't afford anymore studio time.
Where did the title come from?
B-STIXX -LOSER came from wanting to just reclaim that word.
JEST A KING -We say Loser a lot in the song so it only seems right.
How did you become inspired to make this song?
B-STIXX -I think the inspiration came from being called a LOSER and feeling like one just for embracing who we are and what we wanted to do. I know I have been bullied a lot in the past just for being me so this song and album is also a message to yourself and your younger selves who did not have a safe space to just be.
JEST A KING - It starts small, like a riff or a progression, and the inspiration snowballs from there.
How did you approach this song vs. songs past?
B-STIXX - I think this song really came from a lot of our experiences from the past of feeling like outcasts for loving what we love and what we wanted to do.
JEST A KING - It was originally going to be a part of another song but it was recycled and turned into something on it's own.
