Single Review: Derek Skelton Releases New Single “Island Girl”

Country singer/songwriter, Derek Skelton, released new single “Island Girl” on February 1st, 2021. Skelton was raised in a small town in Alabama and joined the Air Force at age 19 and is now stationed in Hawaii. While serving his country, Skelton goes to Nashville to record his music. He is a country artist at heart but still takes great influence from other genres such as R&B, soul and rock.

Skelton’s new song “Island Girl” is a true country song singing about love and romance. He describes a girl he loved. The track has a wonderful vibe to it. Skelton has a very soothing silky smooth voice, with an upbeat groove as he sings. The lyrics are catchy, I can imagine friends sitting around singing along as they drink together. “Island Girl” is a great summer song that gives happy thoughts and memories. The drums give a great rhythm that makes your foot start stompin’ while the guitar pulls you into the music providing depth to the music. It is a great song overall and one that will help put Derek Skelton on the country music map.
