Song Review: Iris Drive's 'If I'!
Written by : Natalie Powers
Recorded in Nashville in 2019, Iris Drive’s first album, Bridges: The Nashville Sessions, is a collection of originals and covers with an Americana rock twist. The lineup of songs is cohesive as a whole, but “If I” stands out as particularly memorable. The track has resonant vocals, clean guitar motifs and a steady build that makes for easy listening.
Iris Drive consists of Ryan Neal (vocalist), Matt Miniken (guitar), and Andy Orozco (drums and piano). Based in Seattle, the band has found success in blending genres and implementing style from both coasts to accentuate their style. “If I” feels reminiscent of late 90s rock with a bit of a country twang. The vocal stylings are warm with a slight grit that adds an emotional aspect to the sound. Musically, the instrumentation is consistent and well balanced, allowing the listener to experience the music without focusing on one specific aspect. Overall, “If I” is an emotionally compelling song that merges genres with ease.
