This Wonder Woman beams with a style and swagger that is as electric as it is singular. Her performance prowess, perspective and rebellion x heroine energy are primed to build her a comfortable home on the desolate land between today’s Rock & Roll and Pop. Camryn has opened for One Direction & Fifth Harmony, continuously leaving audiences in awe with her confidence and undeniable talent. Camryn’s momentum and flare was poured into the release of her EP “Love Maps”. The day has come where Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato fans may have a new favorite.
What are your thoughts on trends in music?
Trends can be very unique and cool which is often why they become trends in the first place. I think it offers a space to explore something new creatively that may not be what you are used to.
Do you follow any trends when it comes to your music?
Following trends can be tricky because they tend to disappear as quickly as they began so if I do decide to follow one I know I have to act fast. I like to use elements of trendy things and put my spin on it to make it my own.
What trends do you try to stay away from?
I don't like to follow trends to the T because then it is not really me or who I am because someone else created it. It can sometimes feel inauthentic, at least to me, so I try to avoid doing that.
Forming your own self as an artist can be difficult. How do you make sure you don't get caught up with replicating another artist?
I think this is very similar to my view on trends. If you use other artists for reference then be creative and make it your own in some way. A great example is my song Dance With Somebody which samples the iconic Whitney Houston song. We changed the entire vibe of the song to a much more dark and sultry version and created new verses to support that. It's not the same song but it does pay tribute to her but in a way that's uniquely me.
Influence is important though, are the influences you pull from?
Absolutely! I will always hold a very special place in my heart for Avril Lavigne because she shaped my taste in music. Bands like Paramore, Panic! At The Disco and Fall Out Boy were always on at full volume! I also grew up obsessed with Mariah Carrey, Christina Agulara, Alicia Keys, and so many more incredible vocalists. I think I am still very much influenced by these artists today.
Do you ever get compared to an artist?
I have and I think it’s a huge compliment when you are compared to other successful artists. Some people can take it the wrong way but I think it’s simply another way to describe you as an artist. It can be very difficult to describe an artist and put them into words so comparing you to other artists helps people convey their description easier.
How do you want to trend in music?
I would love to trend in music for putting out an incredible body of work that people become obsessed with in the same way I was when Beyonce dropped an album without telling a soul.
What is your latest and greatest that you want to talk about with your music?
I'm working on a new body of work and I really want to think outside of the box for this one and I am so excited! Music charting today is full of so many genres and I want to tap into a few of them and try some new things. Now that the world is getting back to normal I look forward to touring and performing more because it’s one of my favorite things to do.
Learning more and more from each project you do, what has been the most invaluable experience as of late?
Stepping out of my comfort zone is hard for me at times but it is so important to keep trying things that push your creative boundaries. The pandemic gave me a chance to step back and say “Screw it! I’m doing whatever I want!” and if that means writing a dance song or a metal song I’m down to try it.
I am obsessed with all things ASMR. I will scroll through ASMR videos for hours. It's honestly a problem! Haha It's like scratching an itch I didn't know I had.
