Born to a drummer and pianist in Vicksburg, MS, Zechariah Lloyd woke up every morning to his mother playing on her baby grand. He began playing drums at age 11 on his father's drum set - cutting his teeth on Zeppelin & Skynyrd records he borrowed from his uncle and playing with the church band. After high school he ended up in Alaska for work, picking up the guitar, and crafting his songwriting skills. He showed back up in Mississippi a year later with long hair and a song to sing. In 2015, Zechariah Lloyd won the Vicksburg Blues Challenge and went on to represent the Vicksburg Blues Society in Memphis for the 2015 International Blues Challenge, where he made it as a finalist in the solo/duo division. Down to the River, his first single recorded with Plaid Dog Recordings (Boston, MA) was self-released in 2019 and was used to help crowdfund the full EP, titled “Heart in a Notebook.” in 2020, Down to the River won 1st place Blues for both the Unsigned Only Competition AND the International Songwriting Competition. It placed 2nd in Blues for the 2021 International Songwriting Competition. After delays attributed to the global pandemic, Zechariah & Plaid Dog Recordings were able to finish the EP in February of 2022. The EP, “Heart in a Notebook”, will be released to all public platforms July 14th, 2022. The single, “Heart in a Notebook” releases July 1st. While promoting the release of his current EP, Zechariah Lloyd has been and continues to work on his full-length album with producer, Billy Smiley, at The Sound Kitchen studios in Franklin, TN

So great to have you for our interview today Zechariah. Tell us about your latest single and the impact it's had on your fans so far?

My latest single is called "Heart in a Notebook" and so far, fans seem to love it! We released a music video for it as well, which y'all can check out HERE.

Do you get more attached to songs over others?

Sometimes - usually the ones I really like! But, they're all my babies, love em all.

What makes your single and the time you spent on the music memorable for you?

Heart in a Notebook is special to me because it's a song written over the course of a few years, that sums up my personal struggle with moving on from someone I really cared about. It's a little time capsule of a specific time and emotion in my past. Seeing the song turn into the final product in the studio was special to me. Each song is like a tiny chapter of my life and there's a certain sense of completeness I feel after finishing a song.

Any tried or true techniques you have when creating the music?

Specifically in regards to the music, I just try to make the music match the emotion of the lyrics, as well as balancing the line of "familiar" and "new." What are you most looking forward to in 2023 with your new music? I'm super stoked to release some new tunes! I've been working with Wishbone Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL as well as BlueSky Studios in Jackson, MS to get some new material to release in 2023. Have to keep them under the radar until we finalize the release strategy. But they're on their way! Anything in 2022 that you experienced that you're either leaving behind or bringing with you into 2023? I'm looking forward to bringing my team of pros with me into 2023. I've got a solid support group of mentors and industry veterans that believe enough in me to help me push this thing to the next level. Where can our readers go to learn more about your future projects?!

I'd say just stay tuned to my social media channels and the website. We'll be launching some new things in early 2023!

You're rad. Leave us with a word or phrase that will describe what your fans can expect from you NEXT!

Get ready to rock!
